Getting around Seoul is very easy because of its organized transportation system. Here is the full subway and train map of Seoul for easier viewing. You can travel to Gapyeong, where Nami Island, Petite France, and Garden of Morning Calm are located, on your own.

From Myeongdong, we took the subway at Myeongdong Station to Dongdaemun Station and transferred to Line 1 (the blue line) going to Cheongnyangni Station. From there we transferred to the ITX train going to Gapyeong.
The RED dots are the stations in which you need to get off. |
ITX train is the Intercity Train Express. You could actually book the ITX ticket in advance thru online reservation however since we are conscious of using Credit Cards abroad, we opted to purchase the tickets at the train station itself. Take note that there are different types of train tickets, reserved seats or standing. Since we need to consider the time, we opted for the standing ticket.
Arriving at the Gapyeong Station, we found the Bus Station headed for Nami Island, Petite France, and Garden of Morning Calm. We checked the schedule first so that we would know what time to wait for the bus. Take note that the line is very long. On the way back, we had to cram just to get inside the bus. You must strategically plan your time especially if you are only going there for a day trip. You may choose to take a taxi instead, although the line is also long. A friend of mine told me that they booked for a day tour instead and got to see all three places (Nami Island, Petite France, and Garden of Morning Calm). If you are traveling with a large group then it would be much cheaper and convenient booking for a tour rather than taking the ITX.
You may purchase the ticket at the bus driver upon boarding.
It is pretty easy to use the bus. You just have to check the schedule. A bit of warning though. Don't be too late to ride the bus going back to the train station. There will be a lot of people that will be hard to board the last bus and the taxi line is also long.
