Food Spot | Din Tai Fung BGC

By huayyu - 8/23/2019

Originally from Taiwan, Din Tai Fung which was founded in 1950s is now in Manila.  Famous for the legendary Xiao Long Bao, we visited their restaurant in BGC to see if it really tastes like the one we ate in Taiwan.

Currently, there are only 3 Din Tai Fung branches in the Philippines: SM Megamall, Rockwell and BGC.  I have been to both SM Megamall and BGC and both of the restaurants have long lines.  Not to worry, they have a good number system so you won't have to wait long.

The BGC branch is big and has lots of space for people to move around so you won't feel crowded.  Just let the receptionist know how many persons will be dining and they will take care of the rest.

Here are what we ordered:

PORK XIAO LONG BAO (10 PIECES): PHP 315.00

Of course the number one must on the list of orders is Xiao Long Bao and they taste exactly like the one in Taiwan.  You would even see that they are freshly made every day.  You could go to the open kitchen where they will let you see that Xiao Long Baos are made fresh daily.  I also recommend their Crab Roe flavored Baos.

DIN TAI FUNG HOUSE SPECIAL: PHP 155.00

This is what they call Xiao Chai or literal translation Small Vegetable.  An appetizer of assorted vegetables.  What I like about this is the crunchiness and it does not taste or smell like vegetables which are perfect for picky eaters like me.

SHRIMP AND PORK POT STICKERS: PHP 220.00

For those who are not a fan of steamed dishes and would prefer fried instead, then this one is a good alternative to the Xiao Long Bao.  But who does not love a good Xiao Long Bao?  Just order both dishes to experience it fried and steamed.

SALTED EGG YOLK PRAWNS (SOLO): PHP 395.00

One of the best Salted Egg Yolk Prawns that I have tried.  The only downside?  Too expensive.  We ordered the solo because the for sharing is Php 995.00 (almost Php 1,000!!!).  We shared the solo serving for 5 persons and we all get to taste it.  Plus of course, a few pieces extra for me since I'm the youngest.

PORK CHOP FRIED RICE: PHP 295.00

If you are looking for rice toppings then you couldn't go wrong with this Pork Chop Fried Rice.  This is not your everyday pork chop.  There is that certain Taiwanese taste in the spices of the pork and together with fried rice is the perfect combination.

CHICKEN CHOP FRIED RICE: PHP 295.00

If you have a dietary requirement like no pork allowed then the perfect alternative is this chicken chop.  It is almost the same spice as the pork chop except that this chicken chop has a coating.

You don't need to go to Taiwan to experience their food.  Din Tai Fung serves one of the best authentic Taiwanese dishes in Metro Manila.
