My mindset when traveling abroad is that I don't think too much about the expenses and exchange rate especially when it comes to food.  But for local destinations, I tend to have a tight budget.  Why?  Because there is no exchange rate and I can see immediately if it is expensive and I could always find ways to buy food when I crave it.


Here is one of my recommendations when going to Davao.  A restaurant that serves scrumptious and filling meal yet affordable.

Penong's mostly serve grilled food.  Since this is much more of fast food than an actual restaurant, our orders are per person.  Here is my order:

PORK BARBECUE (3 PCS): PHP 109.00

This pork barbecue is one of their Inato Meals.  The serving per stick may seem small but because it is 3 pcs, it is enough for 1 meal.  I love that it really smells like barbeque.  I'm not sure if you noticed but sometimes there are barbecues out there that do not have that smoke smell.  You don't even have to dip it in vinegar because the taste is more than enough.

ICE CREAM SHAKE: PHP 79.00

I was actually a bit surprised by the price of this Ice Cream Shake.  Normally, here in Manila, a regular shake is around Php100+.  At Penong's, the same size and tastes almost the same (to other ice cream shakes) is only Php79.00.  This one is a must for Ube lovers or foreign tourists who have yet to try Ube or Purple Yam.


Overall, I would definitely eat here again if I am going to Davao.  One more thing, this branch is in Abreeza Mall so it is very convenient to go for those who want to try Filipino food.
