When I first heard of this restaurant, I thought "What?" with a strange expression in my face. I had to ask my friend to repeat the name again and again and again. In the end, I had to google it and pronounced it as lo-ka-vo-re but it really is only lo-ka-vor.
Not only did I googled the pronunciation but I also googled its meaning. It means "a person whose diet consists only or principally of locally grown or produced food". I guess they named it because they support local products which are a very good idea because not a lot of businesses support local products nowadays.
Everyone who has read my previous posts before knows that I love seafood especially shrimp and crabs. One look at the menu of Locavore, I knew instantly that I had to have their Sugpo con Mayonesa, jumbo shrimp with "aligue" (crab fat) and mayonnaise.
And boy, it didn't disappoint. It even surpassed what I expected from the dish.
It is best paired with garlic rice because even if you finished eating the shrimps, the sauce would be more than enough to make the rice even more delicious.
I rarely give a high recommendation in a dish but this is one dish that I highly recommend when you eat at Locavore.
I know that I was supposed to start this post with the appetizer but I can't help mentioning the Sugpo con Mayonesa first because it really is that good.
Okay, for the appetizer we ordered Singkamas (turnip), Mangga (green mango) at bagoong (shrimp paste). This is their own version of the green mangoes and turnips that you see in the streets. They even served it in sticks just like in the streets. If you have foreign visitors, you should try bringing them here and experience the mangoes/turnips on sticks. The closest that they could get without worrying stomach ache.
Our 2nd appetizer is the Gabi (taro) Chips with garlic confit. This one also tastes good. I didn't know that Gabi Chips could be this delicious.
Lastly, for our dessert, their very own Sorbetes (Filipino ice cream). I say Filipino ice cream because of the flavor Tsokonut and Keso (cheese).
It is very delicious as it is very creamy. Because of the ice cream's rich flavor, 1 serving would be good for sharing. Too much of it would leave you feeling "umay" (not sure of the English term but may be tired of it?).
My verdict? This is a definite must-try place for those who are looking for something new.
Have other dishes in Locavore that are highly recommended? Let me know in the comment below.
