High Street Cafe @ Shangri-La The Fort

A few months before, I blogged about my dining experience with Heat @ Edsa Shangri-La.   This time, I am blogging about the restaurant at the newest Shangri-La hotel in the metro, High Street Cafe.  Will my experience be the same as Heat's Edsa Shangri-La?  Read on to find out.

Since this is a new hotel, my expectations with the service and the food, as usual, are high especially as Shangri-La is one of the prominent 5-star hotels in the metro.  We went for dinner on a Monday night.

The first that I noticed when I walked into the restaurant is that there are a lot of choices of food to eat.  I had a hard time choosing where to start.  Everything looks good.

Of course, I started with my favorite, shrimps, and crab.  The shrimps and crabs are pre-cooked but serve cold.  Since I don't really eat cold seafood, I asked the staff if I could ask them to cook it for me and they said to bring the seafood to the continental station which I did.  They could only reheat the seafood and not cook it in another way like buttered or chili which was fine by me since I only wanted it hot.

Blame the hotelier in me, I noticed that their name tags for their drinks are not in line with the drinks below.  The above picture shows that the left side is Peach Iced Tea but the below drink looks like a Green Apple and Kiwi Burst.  They could learn to be more detailed in these kinds of stuff.

Though, I must commend their waiting staff as they really paid attention to our group.  They are quick in refilling water and I even asked for a pitcher (since I get really thirsty when eating) which they immediately placed on our table.  Not only that but they are also quick in clearing out the dishes.  We didn't have to call their attention.  If they see a plate that is already done, they will clear it immediately but before doing that they confirm to us first if we have finished using the plate.  Their service is at its best.

Below are more of the food choices that they offer.  From Chinese to Cold Cuts, they seem to have it all.  I think this post will have the most pictures of food that I have taken in a restaurant.

Now, I will be telling you my favorite.  This you must really try when you eat here.

My first recommendation is their Laksa.  They have the best Laksa that I have tasted.  Just the right amount of spices.

Next will be their Pork Belly.  I love the smell of the smoke coming out of the pork.  Just rightly grilled and not toasted.  I didn't even get to picture it with the chafing dish full!  People keep on getting it that there is almost no Pork Belly left.  Best with Grilled Corn and Mashed Potato topped with their Peppercorn Gravy.  By the way, the Mashed Potato is on another station.

You would not regret eating here.  I would definitely recommend this restaurant.  Both food and service are exceptional.  A bit expensive (Php1,980 per person) but definitely worth it.
